Composite Fillings

Composite Fillings, ‘white fillings’, are made from synthetic material that can match close to the natural colour of your teeth.

What is a cavity?

A cavity is the space inside your tooth that is left once decay is removed.

Why does tooth decay happen?

Decay is caused by plaque (a type of bacteria that forms on your teeth and causes decay).

When the bacteria inside your mouth creates acid, it will eat away at your enamel, causing decay. If you do not see the dentist, this enamel can wear away to a point where it exposes roots, causing discomfort.

Why might I need a filling?

You may need a filling if you have decay in your teeth or have a cracked tooth. If you do not get the decay removed, you may experience discomfort, or further oral health issues.

Dental Crowns

A crown is a type of dental restoration that will place a cap over a tooth or dental implant.

Why might I need a dental crown?

A crown will be recommended if you need to restore a broken tooth, if you have recently had a large filling replaced or have had a root canal.

Also, if your tooth is misshapen, or if you need to protect your teeth from future damage your dentist may recommend a crown treatment.

What does the crown procedure look like?

When you visit your dentist you will create your customized treatment plan. From there, if a crown is part of your oral health plan, your dentist will take impressions of your smile.

Once impressions are taken, they are sent off to a dental lab to create the crown. At your next visit, the crown will be placed over your tooth, and cemented into place.
